Port 8 and the Uplink Port
Port 8 and the Uplink port allow you to connect
an additional workstation to the unit or
interconnect the unit with a switch, hub, or
router, without the use of a crossover cable. If
you need to connect an additional workstation
to the unit, use Port 8, which is configured as
MDI-X, just like ports 1 through 7. If you need
to connect the unit to an Ethernet switch, hub,
or router, use the Uplink port, which is
configured as MDI.
Both Port 8 and the Uplink port offer 10 Mbps
or 100 Mbps performance and auto-negotiation
operation for both speed and duplex mode, just
like ports 1 through 7. Both ports feature an
RJ-45 connector and have a maximum
operating distance of 100 meters (328 feet)
using Category 3, 4, or 5 twisted pair cable for
10 Mbps operation and Category 5 cable for 100
Mbps operation.
Note
You can use either port 8 or the Uplink
port. You cannot use both
simultaneously.
